nox noctis

This series represents the beginning of a creative tool I started using back in the early oughts. I picked a non-subject-specific name, in this case, ‘nox noctis’ (pidgin-latin for deepest night) as the name of a series of photos. The idea was that I would use it as a generic bucket to throw images that shared a similar sensibility and ‘feel’. In this case, all of the images are nighttime images that are dark, slightly mysterious and film-noir-ish. I am old enough to have seen plenty of TV shows before color TV was common, along with black and white movies. I love the mystery that can be created when color is removed and only light and shadow remain.

This series is printed using a variety of processes: palladium, gum-over-palladium, silver gelatin and inkjet.
