this site
In traditional publishing, this would be called a colophon.
This section describes the tools and methods I used to assemble this site. I may try to pull together a more extensive PDF file describing this process. But the short version is this: things have come a long way in the last few years. The design of this site is now a nearly grownup CMS database system, which makes it extremely easy to add content.
The primary tool I chose for this was the wonderful WordPress blogging software. The principal advantage of this system is that it separates content from appearance to a very large degree. If I tire of the way this site looks in a year, I can change the look of it by merely loading a different ‘theme’ to display all the information. WordPress also has an incredible array of so-called plugins that easily allow you to add functionality such as RSS feeds, spambot protection, gallery display widgets, shopping carts and a gazillion other things that might be useful.
The second tool is the amazing Themes software. This WordPress plugin allows you to quite easily develop your own themes to make the appearance of the website match your own particular tastes. You can customize the menu structure, add static pages to the site with different visual page structures, and in general, change about every visual aspect of your site quite easily.
And now for the real colophon:
The headline and title typefaces are the clean and modern Century Gothic. The body text is the Corbel typeface, another sans serif typeface. The website colors are inspired by some of the same colors we love to use in our home.
